ACC is known for its slow-growing nature. While it might not grow rapidly, it has a tendency to infiltrate surrounding tissues, nerves, and blood vessels. This characteristic can make complete surgical removal challenging, and recurrence is not uncommon even after initial treatment.

ACC can arise in a variety of anatomical sites, with the most frequent locations being the salivary glands (especially the major and minor salivary glands), but it can also occur in the lacrimal glands (tear glands), breast tissue, respiratory tract, and other sites.

ACC has a notable propensity to spread to distant sites, particularly the lungs. This feature can make long-term management and monitoring critical, as controlling or managing metastases can be more complex than addressing the primary tumor.
